Week 6 Game Picks cont.

13 OCT 4:05 PM ET Game

Falcons @ Cardinals

This is the game the Falcons needed. A battle against another bird team in the desert. Matt Ryan has a 5-1 record against the Cards and if he plays keep away well after throwing 7 INTs through 5 games, the Falcons have a great chance of bouncing back with a road win. The Falcons will need to find a way to contain Kyler Murray & find a way to not let any wideout go nuclear on them. Last week Atlanta allowed over 400 Yds passing & 5 TD to Deshaun Watson who also finished with a perfect 158.3 passer rating. I’d expect the Cards to keep it close, however, the Falcons are most definitely a playoff contender if they can flip the switch. I’m flying with the Falcons in the desert.

Score: 27-23, Falcons Win.

49ers @ Rams

This is one of the toughest game picks I will have to do this season. The 49ers are 4-0 for the first time since 1991 & the Rams are looking… well beatable once again in the NFC West. Last weeks’ road loss was a mess for the Rams, however, when Rams head coach, Sean McVay has 10 or more days to prepare for a team (other than the Super Bowl) he is 10-0. He’ll have 10 days to prepare for the Niners by Sunday…

Jared Goff is going to have to find a way to stay consistent and potentially win this game without Gurley (quad) who has been listed as questionable for this matchup. Stopping 49er’ Nick Bosa is going to be the key to success for this offense. Bosa has generated a league-high in QB pressures on 23.5% of his pass rushes (min. 50 rushes). The Rams aerial attack is also an established triple-threat, unlike a struggling Browns’ dynamic-duo the 49ers played last week. As for the Niners offense, expect them to rely on their 1-2 punch in Tevin Coleman & Matt Breida. The 49ers key on offense could be the run game as the Rams key will be the aerial attack. I hate to make this pick, however, I can’t bet against Sean McVay & this Rams team with a serious chip on their shoulder. LA rebounds with a divisional win at home.

Score: 31-27, Rams Win.

13 OCT 4:25 PM ET Game

Titans @ Broncos

What is with all of these bounce-back games? Denver pulled off a road upset in LA as the Titans lost a tough one at home to the Bills. This week the Titans should bounce back against a disappoint Denver defense. With Vic Fangio in control, the expectations were high for a defense that had both Bradley Chubb & Von Miller. That same defense has produced 0 sacks in 4 of their last 5 games. Expect the Titans offense to return to their true self with a consistent QB & a reliable run game in Denver. The only key to keeping Denver out of this game: STOP PHILIP LINDSAY. Although, the Titans defense might have a tough task ahead of them, slowing down Lindsay should be good enough to get the road W.

Score: 29-20, Titans Win.

Cowboys @ Jets

Good news Jets fans, Sam Darnold will start for the first time since Week 1. Bad news, the Jets play the Cowboys. It’s a perfect bounce-back game for the Cowboys as they simply did not look like a playoff team last week against a stout Packer defense. Expect Dak Prescott to play it safe this game, hopefully, that means no turnovers as the Cowboys have turned the ball over a league-high 6 times over the past two weeks. As for the running backs, it’ll be a fun matchup between Ezekiel Elliot & Le’Veon Bell. Bell should contribute big time in the Jets aerial attack as the Boys’ defense has allowed the 2nd-most receptions to opposing running backs. As for Elliot, he has avg. 140.2 Rush YPG on the road this season. We’d love to see the winless Jets pull off the upset, however, this matchup is pretty lopsided in favor of the Cowboys.

Sunday Night Football

Steelers @ Chargers

The Chargers have been one of the more disappointing teams this season losing 3 of their last 4 games by one possession. This week, Rivers goes into a primetime matchup against the Steelers who are down to their 3rd string QB. Expect Pittsburgh’s offense to run through James Conner as I’m not expecting the Steelers offense to rely on the passing attack. As for the Chargers, they are going to have to flip the switch on offense as they have scored 20 or fewer points in 3 of their 5 games this season. They cannot allow the Steeler defense to dominate this game as a loss on Sunday Night could put a dent in the Chargers playoff hopes. There is definitely a sense of urgency with this Charger team & with Melvin Gordon back, I sense high-voltage!

Score: 27-17, Chargers Win.

Monday Night Football

Lions @ Packers

An NFC North clash to conclude Week 6 of the NFL’s 100th season! The Lions are coming off a bye week to take on a red-hot Packer team. For the first time in a while, the Packers don’t need Aaron Rodgers to be.. well Aaron Rodgers! In 4 of the Packers 5 games, Rodgers has not thrown for more than 250 yards. They are 4-0 when this happens! With Matt LaFleur’s offense slowly clicking on all cylinders, the aerial attack has shown signs of promise, however, with Davante Adams out, the passing attack will never be at a 100%. Until then I believe Aaron Rodgers can lay low for a while and let the defense dominate & the pound opposing defenses in the run game with Aaron Jones. However, if the Packers did need to rely on Rodgers, it’s Rodgers! He has the best TD: INT ratio vs. Lions than any other QB. Expect the Packers to stay atop the NFC North. Beating the Lions for the first time since 2016 will give Green Bay a big jump-start within the division.
