AD wants OUT!

AD wants OUT!

Dread it. The day has finally come. Anthony Davis has stepped up and requested a trade from the Pelicans. THIS IS HUGE for the league. Everyone knew Davis was possibly a free agent, however, he has made it clear that he is on the move regardless. Have that move be before the February 7th trade deadline or by July 6th when the free agency period begins. Point: Anthony Davis will no longer be a Pelican.

Sorry Pelican fans! This is the NBA. At the end of the day, it’s a business. Now, with the sentiment aside…where will Davis end up? If the Pelicans plan on keeping Davis for the remainder of the season, he will hit the open market. Believe me, that’s the last thing the Pelicans or even the rest of the NBA would want. The smart (and should be the only choice) here: TRADE HIM. I know, it sucks Pelican fans but you’re eventually going to have to let go…

In all honesty, Anthony Davis is going to have a HUGE market have it be through trade or free agency. He made it clear that he wants to go to a contender, however, that doesn’t mean the Pelicans need to trade him to a contender. They are going to do what’s in the best interest of the team. Now there are several dream opportunities here that Davis could go to the Lakers and team up with LeBron, or he joins the Warriors with his old pal Boogie! Okay, that last one was a joke but if that happens…

Anyways! Narrowing it down into conferences is a better predictor for a high-profile player such as Davis. Now is there a better conference for AD? Well, he did say he wants to be on a team where he has a chance to win a championship.

Best fit: Eastern Conference.

I would love to see Anthony Davis stay in the west and cause a bit of havoc against the defending champs. Other than the Los Angeles Lakers and quite possibly the Denver Nuggets, I do not believe any team in the Western Conference has a legitimate shot at landing the All-Star (unless it’s through free agency). On top of that, I don't think the Pelicans will trade him to another Western Conference team. Its bad enough to have to play against Davis, I don’t think the Pelicans want to see him more times than they have to (at least for the remainder of the season). Now the Eastern Conference is competitive however, it is nothing like the west. In the western conference, you have the best frontcourt in the Warriors, then LeBron and the young Lakers, Russ-PG on the Thunder, Harden and the high flying Rockets, Jokic and the Nuggets...the list goes on.

The Eastern Conference could use someone like Davis. The Bucks are my favorite in this case. They have been phenomenal this season and someone like Davis will take the Eastern Conference by storm, forming a dynamic duo with the GREEK FREAK. The second team I would keep my eyes on here are the Boston Celtics. I know, it sounds a tad bit like a long shot, however, the Celtics have a lot of depth on their roster and I'm sure they wouldn't hesitate to trade anyone (except maybe Kyrie and Tatum) on their roster for a high caliber player such as Davis. Besides, there's been a lot of talk about Kyrie leaving the Celtics...if they can land Anthony Davis in a trade, they can hit 2 birds with 1 stone. It'll be a good way to convince both Davis and Kyrie to resign and be the new face(s) in the East. Let’s just hope that this quote doesn't age well for Tatum!

UPDATE: The Celtics cannot trade for Anthony Davis this season with Kyrie Irving on the roster due to the ‘Rose Rule’. They will have to wait until free agency to get a nab at Davis.
